The Orpheus Choir of North Herts The Orpheus Choir of North Herts was founded in 1969 by the late John Railton MBE who also set up our sister choir, the North Herts Guild of Singers. John conducted the choir himself until 1984, and other past conductors include Michael Procter and Janet Wheeler. |

Our repertoire includes music in many styles, from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary pieces composed by members of the choir. We also let our hair down with rousing renditions of lighter songs, traditional spirituals and popular standards. A friendly and light-hearted group covering a wide age range, we take our music making seriously but have fun doing it. Orpheus welcomes applications from singers in all voices, but there can sometimes be a waiting list for certain sections. Please use the form under 'Contact us' or the email icon at the top of the page. |
Our founder John Railton was made an MBE in the 2012 New Year Honours List and received his insignia from Prince Charles. John died in February 2013. |
The Orpheus Choir of North Herts is a registered charity number 298213. Nearly all our concerts and events are held in support of some charitable activity, whether singing Christmas carols in an old people's home, supporting a hospice fundraiser or, most commonly, performing in a church for their organ or fabric fund.
